The Biggest Decor Trends for 2018, According to Pinterest
We’re all guilty of falling into the black hole of Pinterest. It’s a great way to plan out your dream home down to the last napkin without ever having to spend a cent. And the team at Pinterest is taking note—the company just released its trend report for 2018.
Looking at everything from the food to the interiors to the clothes we’re pinning, Pinterest compiled a list of trends slated to take over in the new year. The difference between this and other trend reports is that Pinterest’s is entirely consumer-driven. It’s you, the dedicated pinner, who’s determining the trends for the new year, rather than a team of experts and designers. Want to see what 2018 holds for interior trends? Here, a list of the biggest things we’ll be seeing in the new year according to Pinterest (and you).
Sorry, Ultra Violet: This calming hue is the one making waves amongst Pinterest users. Noted for its versatility, sage green is subdued enough that it works with pretty much any decor aesthetic but also makes a statement. Not a fan of this particular shade? Try implementing any of the other colors projected to make waves for the new year.
Your home should be a calming place, but too often it can feel chaotic. Minimize clutter, bring in subdued tones—Behr’s 2018 color of the year is particularly perfect for this—and add in a few accent pieces reminiscent of your favorite holiday. And when in doubt, a DIY stress-relieving bath is sure to do the trick. Simply keep some spa accessories on hand for an at-home resort experience you can recreate any day of the week.
The trend we saw everywhere this summer seems to be here to stay. The speckled design will add a playful touch to your space, and is a super easy way to bring in some color without going over the top. Go big with a terrazzo table or opt for a smaller way to implement the trend, with a cushion or a tray.
Large Scale Wall Art
According to Pinterest, searches for wall art were up 637 percent this year. The great thing about this particular trend is how customizable it is. Dress up an empty wall with a colorful DIY pom pom hanging or go all out with a gallery wall. If you have a quirkier sense of style, you might even try your hand at the “stranger art” trend. Plus, there are tons of places to find affordable art so that crafting a statement making wall doesn’t have to set you back a ton of money.
This vintage-looking trend is going modern. Scour your local thrift store for pieces that incorporate bone inlay, or look to globally-inspired companies like Meridian to find items online. From smaller items like vases or boxes to larger full-on furniture pieces, there are tons of ways to bring this trend home.
While we love a good subway tile, it’s definitely refreshing to see another style pop up for 2018. Herringbone wood floors were having a moment last year, and their classic look provides a timeless elegance that can easily be translated into tiles, either for your floors or your walls.
Not ready to commit to a fully-painted room? Start small by giving your door a fresh coat of color. Brightly-colored front doors instantly make your home feel more welcoming, and inside a vibrant door set against whitewashed walls makes a bold statement.
For an eclectic feel, eschew the uniform look and mix up your metal accents. Whether you’re creating a pretty tablescape with mixed metallics or going bold with funky tiles, this is one trend you can definitely get inventive with.
Pinterest searches for statement ceilings are up 310 percent this year, and we’re so glad this more creative approach to painting a room is gaining traction. Try ceiling wallpaper, bold paint hues, or even more unique approaches like high-gloss paint (which, due to its mirror effect, makes your space look bigger than it is) or color-blocking.
