See Shay Mitchell’s Gorgeous (and Affordable!) Backyard Makeover
Celeb homes can be so over-the-top sometimes, that as much as you’d love to recreate their design aesthetic, it’s just impossible to do so at a reasonable price point. That’s why Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell’s stunning backyard makeover is such a breath of fresh air: It’s modern, breezy, and the perfect summer oasis, but the best part is, it’s also totally affordable—the most expensive item, a four-piece furniture set only costs $1,049.
Mitchell partnered with AllModern designer Donna Garlough to turn her empty patio into a perfect, chic entertaining area. She says of her “Moroccan meets Mediterranean” living space, “It’s definitely inspired by my travels, and I love getting pieces for my house from all of my trips.”
The patio is a perfect mix of stark, modern finishes, along with vibrant pops of color. It’s divided into four separate areas, each designed with a different theme in mind, but they combine to create a cohesive, all-purpose outdoor seating area. For example, the poolside lounge is accented with cozy throws, brass and gold ornaments, and a variety of lanterns—a set of three costs just $95.99.
There’s also a small little nook with a fire pit, and it’s surrounded by lush greenery. Garlough and Mitchell used wood-covered, teardrop-shaped chairs (available for $339.99) to play up the nature theme, and paired them with cushions soft enough to sink your body into. It’s no surprise this area is also Mitchell’s favorite space in her new alcove: “It’s such a great little nook now for reading or hanging out around the fire,” she says.
Garlough says, “Shay had a few ideas in mind for the space—mainly, she wanted a long table with an organic yet modern feel, and to be able to create an exotic, Moroccan vibe with accents. She loves to entertain, so it was important for her to be able to create a relaxing vibe for her guests in her outdoor area.”
The lounge area combines light, calming colors with fun geometric prints, which is perfect for the breezy mood Mitchell was going for. “I love the hanging chairs and pillows. They lend such fun and whimsy to the space,” says Garlough. They’re definitely super fun accessories, and they give the garden a cheery, laid-back vibe. The throws vary in price from approximately $38 to $89, and the cozy towels are a steal at $39.99.
